The text messages on your iPhone can take up a decent amount of space, and they can also contribute to your device running a little slowly. The space issue can really be an issue if you send a lot of photos or videos through text messages. Since we rarely reference old text messages and they are such a potential source of issues, your iPhone has a new setting that will automatically delete text messages after a specified period of time.
But you might have some text messages that contain important information, or pictures that you aren’t ready to delete. Fortunately you can adjust the setting on your iPhone that specifies the amount of time for which text messages are kept. Our tutorial below will show you how to keep your iPhone text messages on the device forever, or until you choose to delete them manually.
How to Change the Length of Time That Your iPhone Will Keep Text Messages
The steps below were performed in iOS 10. This feature was not available on some earlier versions of iOS, so you may not see it if you are using a lower version number of the iOS operating system.
Step 1: Tap Settings.
Step 2: Scroll down and open the Messages menu.
Step 3: Scroll down and tap the Keep Messages button.
Step 4: Select the Forever option.
Now your iPhone will keep text messages until you manually delete the individual messages, or the entire text message conversation.
